Will I be subjected to a medical exam, or since the company pays for every employee's 'basic life' I won't need a medical exam? Keep in mind my company pays for the whole basic life insurance for every employee.
To the best of my knowledge if a company provides you with group term life insurance coverage, then there is no need of any kind of medical examination. Usually, the entire company including all employees is accepted as is without having to take a physical exam to qualify.
However, if you want individual life insurance of your own, outside of your employer plan, there are term life insurance plans with no examination needed. In fact, you may be able to qualify for up to $500,000 of term life insurance with no medical exam.
