Most people do have to take a paraded exam, and give blood and urine samples for testing when the life insurance companies requires a medical exam of an applicant for life insurance coverage.
The insurance carrier may have the blood and/or urine tested for legal (prescription) and illegal drugs; such as, cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, etc.
If any illegal drugs are found in your test results, the insurance company may decline you for coverage, or offer a higher rate for your policy, or they may choose to offer you a lower amount of life insurance coverage.

In addition, there are some insurance companies that do not require a medical exam of drug testing.
