My wife and I are both 25 years old, non-smoking, healthy individuals. We want to buy term life insurance. Should we get 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 year policy? Any recommended life insurance carriers?
First, determine how long you need your life insurance coverage.
You may need at least a 30 (or 40) years term life policy, or life insurance until age 65 or 70.
The biggest mistake many people make is buying a 10-year term life plan when they need coverage for a lot longer than that.
And, if you have a mortgage, plan on buying a home, or having kids, you may need protection for at least 30, or more years. Also, consider a term life policy for your wife, too. If she contributes to the home and/or budget, you rely on her financially for supporting your family.
Term life insurance offers you the most life insurance coverage at the lowest price. It provides flexible options where you can choose how many years you need coverage - 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or more years.
Also, you can buy term life with the option to renew your policy for another 10 year term when your term life insurance coverage expires. That way, you won't have to take a physical to renew your policy, in 20 or 30 years.
