There are two basic types: Term and Permanent.
As long as you pay your premiums on time, a permanent life insurance policy should remain In Force throughout your entire lifetime.
Whereas, a term life policy lasts for a specific period of time, usually up to 30 years. The "term" is the duration of time you have life insurance coverage. Many insurers many offer options of term coverage for a duration of 10, 15, 20 or 30 years.
If you outlive the duration of your policy term for your term life insurance, then your life insurance coverage would expire.
